The NEBOSH General Certificate is a professional qualification in occupational health and safety (OHS). NEBOSH stands for the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, which is an independent examination board based in the UK that provides a range of health and safety qualifications. The NEBOSH General Certificate is aimed at people who have health and safety responsibilities in their workplace or who are looking to start a career in health and safety. It covers a wide range of topics related to health and safety, including hazard identification, risk assessment, control measures, fire safety, workplace safety, and environmental management. The NEBOSH General Certificate is widely recognized and respected by employers and is often seen as a minimum requirement for health and safety roles in many industries. It is a level 3 qualification on the UK’s Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which is roughly equivalent to an A-level in the UK. The NEBOSH General Certificate is assessed through two written exams and a practical assessment, and is available through a range of training providers around the world.
Obtaining the NEBOSH General Certificate is a highly beneficial choice as it is widely recognized by employers in the UK, with 90% of them requesting it for managers, supervisors, and their staffs to enhance their health and safety skills and knowledge. By achieving this qualification, individuals can contribute to the creation of a safer working environment and help to achieve sustainable health and safety improvements. Additionally, NEBOSH qualifications are frequently listed in health and safety job advertisements, which means that holding the NEBOSH General Certificate can improve an individual’s job prospects significantly. Furthermore, those who successfully complete the NEBOSH General Certificate are eligible to apply for technical membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH). This opens up opportunities to progress towards further qualifications, such as the NEBOSH National Diploma (Grad IOSH) and ultimately chartered status (CMIOSH).
Obtaining the NEBOSH National Certificate can bring advantages to your company, as certain organizations may prefer to work with businesses that adhere to recognized standards. Being certified demonstrates that your company is compliant and competent in health and safety management, which can potentially increase the demand for your services.
For Employers:
By investing in the certification of their employees, employers can reduce the number of workplace-induced accidents or illnesses, resulting in increased productivity due to fewer absences. The certification also demonstrates the employer’s commitment to health and safety, which can enhance the company’s reputation and positively impact relationships with employees and other businesses.
For Learners:
